  • Trail description:

The Umbalfälle (Umbal falls) force of nature trail at the head of the Virgental (Virgen valley) takes you close to the source of the Isel river, and unlike almost any other valley in the Hohe Tauern, the Umbaltal (Umbal valley) demonstrates the landscape moulding effect and nature of a glacial stream in an impressive manner. Especially in the summer months of melting glaciers, huge volumes of water thunder down the cataracts (water fall steps) to the valley. Interesting display boards along the path provide information about the water, but viewing platforms help make the incredible natural force of water tangible, be it high above the gorge or up close to the water. The Umbalfälle nature force trail was awarded with the Austrian Hiking Quality Seal in 2014.
