Rauris Primeval Forest
Description:
Untouched forests like the Rauris Primeval Forest, with its moor ponds, ancient spruce trees, fallen logs, and clearings, are a rare treasure. The landscape of this centuries-old landslide forest, known as the "Rauris Primeval Forest," is shaped by 80 ponds, lakes, and moors. Located at an altitude of 1,600 meters, the vegetation in the only raised bog in the Alps has developed uniquely due to these exceptional conditions.
On a hike through the Rauris Primeval Forest, visitors encounter an extraordinarily unique plant world and a diverse, mostly protected animal world. To preserve this pristine nature, a themed trail has been created. Starting at the Lenzanger parking lot, the path leads through numerous sphagnum mosses, sedges, and other grass-like plants. A small forest museum provides information about the geological origins of the area and its flora and fauna. The hike through the Rauris Primeval Forest typically takes about 45 minutes. However, those who take more time can fully immerse themselves in the impressive natural experience, relax in this mystical bog, and feel the uniqueness of nature.
