Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

Our National Park Rangers
Passion and a calling

Nobody knows the park as well as they do: You will experience the best of the protected area thanks to our rangers.

Being a ranger in the Hohe Tauern National Park is not just any job. It is a calling.

The men and women working as national park rangers are passionate about their work. They have had extensive training and have considerable hiking and mountaineering experience. However, it is their experience that is far more important. They know where you can see bearded vultures, golden eagles, chamois and marmots. The rangers know the most vibrant of mountain pastures and picnic spots with the best views. Be infected by their enthusiasm!

The ranger – my personal companion

The national park rangers also conduct tours customised to your specific wishes. Book a ranger as your personal companion. Whether for a sunrise trek to watch wildlife or a hike for you to get to know the geological or botanical peculiarities in Carinthia, Salzburg or East Tyrol. A private tour with a ranger also makes a great gift. You choose your theme, the date – the visitor service will take care of everything else for you!

Certified Austrian National Park Ranger

The rangers at the Hohe Tauern National Park know about the ecology, biology, botany, glaciology and history of the park. Since 2010, there has been a standard comprehensive training course available throughout Austria culminating with being awarded an "Austrian National Park Ranger" certificate. Apart from a basic module that is the same for all Austrian rangers, participants will then complete an advanced module dedicated to the specifics of each protected area and to work in practice.
