  • Trail description:

The Innergschlöss glacier trail takes visitors right into the centre of the "eternal ice" in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park. You will start at the Matrei Tauernhaus in Matrei in Osttirol in the most beautiful valley in the Eastern Alps: the Gschlösstal (Gschlöss valley). The Inngergschlöss glacier trail starts at the head of the valley with an ascent of approx. 500 metres in altitude to the Salzbodensee (Salzboden lake) and with less of a difference in altitude to the glacier snout of the Schlaten Kees at the foot of the Grossvenediger. You will be provided with exciting insights on the glacier trail into the landscape-forming force of the glaciers in the Alps and experience the change in climate and retreat of the glaciers close up.

Further highlights of this Alpine day tour include the cliff-side chapel, the Salzbodensee, and "Eye of God" lake.
